Buffalo Bills safety Taylor Rapp left the field immobilized and in an ambulance during the Week 11 game against the New York Jets on Sunday at Highmark Stadium as Damar Hamlin watched from the sideline.
Rapp, 25, collided with teammate Taron Johnson when attempting to tackle Jets running back Breece Hall moments prior to halftime. Players and staff from both teams looked concerned as the Bills safety was transported off the field in an ambulance.
Johnson, 27, stayed on the ground and went into the fencing position right away, but Rapp did not faint immediately. He stood up and slowly dropped back down as coaching assistants went to his aid.
Cameras captured Rapp moving his fingers and upper extremities after regaining consciousness in the ambulance. He will undergo further evaluation in the hospital.
Rapp played his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and once went viral on social media for proposing to his girlfriend after winning Super Bowl LVI.
Damar Hamlin’s injury was eerily similar
The broadcast focused on Hamlin, also a Bills safety, while Rapp was leaving the field in an ambulance.
Hamlin, 25, looked calm on the sideline, but the Bills safety was clearly thinking about the time he was the one getting medical attention.
Last season, during a Monday Night Football game on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin had to be resuscitated after an impact with receiver Tee Higgins.
Hamlin recently returned to the field where the incident happened in Cincinnati. He has only played in a couple games this season. Bills RB Damien Harris suffered a similar fate earlier this year.
