As Barcelona battled back from being down two goals to secure a point against Granada, teenager Lamine Yamal became the youngest player in the history of La Liga to score a goal.
Yamal, who was 16 years old and 87 days old at the time, was the one who started Barcelona’s comeback.
The guests were put behind immediately, falling behind after just 17 seconds, and Granada took the lead thanks to a double from Bryan Zaragoza in the first half.
However, after Yamal scored in the additional time that was extended to the first half, Sergi Roberto finally put an end to Granada’s resistance with five minutes left to play.
As a result of the point, Barcelona is currently in third place, three points behind Real Madrid for the lead, and one point behind Girona for second place going into the international break.
Unbelievably, Xavi’s team went down to defeat after only 17 seconds after Granada won possession after the kick-off and Bryan Zaragoza scored a goal by shooting it past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
After 29 minutes, Zaragoza added to their lead with an outstanding goal scored by a lone player on the break, despite the fact that the away team was controlling play and looking for an answer.
It took until the 85th minute for Roberto to find the equalizer, which he did by slotting in from Alejandro Balde’s assist. Yamal’s goal before halftime, which he scored by tapping in a pass from Joao Felix, transformed the tenor of the encounter.
Felix was convinced that he had scored a thrilling late winner, but the referee disallowed his goal because Ferran Torres had committed a slight offside infraction.
The most recent record for Yamal comes during a breakthrough year
For Yamal, it has been quite the eventful year.
When he entered the game against Real Betis in April as a substitute, the winger became Barcelona’s youngest player in the club’s history at the age of 15 years and 290 days.
After that, in September, he made history by becoming the youngest player for the Spanish national team and scoring a goal in a 7-1 victory over Georgia in a Euro 2024 qualifying match.
In addition, he added the record of the youngest scorer in La Liga history to his list of accomplishments in 2023 on Sunday when he scored against Granada.
This season in the league, Barcelona has played a total of nine games, and Yamal has appeared in all of them, starting five of them. The two most recent games are among those in which he has started.
Product of the Academy Yamal was born on July 13, 2007, in Equatorial Guinea to a mother originally from Morocco. His father is Moroccan, and he has been at Barca since he was five years old.
As the youngest player to ever be called up to the Spain senior squad, he started against Cyprus following his goal against Georgia and is once again in the squad for October’s internationals against Scotland and Norway. This makes him the youngest player to ever be called up to the Spain senior squad.
