Iga Swiatek won her fifth championship of the year at the China Open by claiming victory over Liudmila Samsonova

Iga Swiatek, the second-ranked player in the world, defeated Liudmila Samsonova in the championship match of the China Open to win her fifth title of the year.

With a score of 6-2 and 6-2, the Polish player added the Beijing title to her collection of victories from Doha, Stuttgart, Roland Garros, and Warsaw.

Swiatek, who is only 22 years old, did not have to face a break point in either set because Samsonova, who is ranked 22nd in the world, struggled to keep up.

She finished the race with a swift victory in just 69 minutes, earning her 16th title overall in her career.

When Samsonova committed a double fault in the sixth game of the match, Swiatek was awarded the opening break of the match. Swiatek went on to win the match and become the champion of the US Open. Coco Gauff’s 16-match winning streak was snapped in the semi-finals by Swiatek.

She went on to finish the first set without making a single unforced error, which was a significant accomplishment for her.

An outstanding serve from Swiatek allowed her to take a 4-1 lead in the second set, and she eventually sealed the deal when Samsonova made another mistake at the net.

In spite of the loss, Samsonova will reenter the world’s top 20 after a week in which she defeated three higher-seeded opponents, including the fifth seed Elena Rybakina, the 12th seed Petra Kvitova, and the 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko.
